Register Overall Review

register hosting

register hosting

Register.com provides standard hosting services at relatively expensive prices. The features are not enough to compel individuals to get a plan with them and start a WordPress blog. The hosting provider appeals to small and medium businesses that look for one stop shop for their hosting and other online services. It allows them to get all the services in just one roof. They also have the budget to afford the costly services that Register has to offer. There have been bad reviews about Register.com, and most of them felt deceived into signing for the services due to the low promotional rates. It could have been avoided by reading the fine prints first before signing up for a hosting package.

Features

Customers of Register.com get several features when they use the provider’s hosting services. They can choose from the three hosting plans. Although their services are expensive, they provide limited disk space in two of their hosting plans. They provide the tools and features that clients need to build and launch a website. They provide FTPS accounts, blogging platforms and popular programming languages support. Customers gain access to a number of open source applications that they can use to enhance a website. They also have a website builder and site restore/automatic backup. For people wanting to start a blog, the hosting provider provides a 1-click WordPress blog installation. Consumers with an existing domain name can have the domain transferred to Register.com.

Reliability

Register.com provides an uptime guarantee of 99.99 percent for their UNIX customers and an uptime of 99.9 percent for Windows users. The hosting provider computes their uptime for all their customers on their servers. The company doesn’t consider scheduled maintenance in computing the uptime for their UNIX and Windows servers. Events that are outside the control of the company or those caused by other parties are also excluded in the computation of the uptime of their servers. The company lets clients scale up their plans as the demand for resources increases. This allows businesses to expand in the future. With the uptime guarantee, websites are expected to stay online all the time. Customers have no complaints regarding downtimes. The overall reliability of the hosting provider’s servers is described to be reliable and good.

Price / Value

Price is one of the weak spots for Register.com. They provide three hosting plans that look relatively affordable at first glance. The Essential Hosting Plan costs $4.95 a month, Professional Hosting at $7.95 a month and Premium Hosting at $9.95 a month. But those rates are just for the first month. Succeeding months are charged at the current rate. Current rate for Essential Hosting is $14.95 a month. Professional Hosting costs $18.95 a month. Premium Hosting is $36.95 a month. The rates are a lot higher compared to other hosting providers. Customers can cancel before the end of the promo period by calling their Customer Service, but some customers complain that they have a hard time canceling their accounts with the company.

Performance

The performance of Register.com is relatively good, but there have been some complaints about their services. There are cases of underperforming websites, and this might be due to an overloaded server. Server response times have been below average, especially during peak hours, and this is something that the hosting provider can work on. Register doesn’t provide information about their servers and data center. Customers are in the dark as to what type of network infrastructure the hosting provider utilizes in order to keep websites online all the time.
